Christmas is here again!

Hello Scrapbook Station fans!  Welcome back!  We have been away from here, but now we're back and we are excited about all of the new things that we are bringing to our blog!

As all of you know, Christmas is right around the corner, and if you're anything like me, you want to make some handmade Christmas gifts for your loved ones so it's not simply a plastic Christmas.  Or, maybe you want to decorate your home with some handmade creations to spruce things up a bit!  Whatever your needs, I have created a neat little Christmas canvas that can essentially be re-created with any papers, embellishments and mixed media!

So, how was this canvas created?  Here are the steps!

1.  Choose a canvas size that you would like to work with.  Any size will do!  They come pre-gessoed, so no need to prep!  (Nice little bonus!)

You will want to use papers that have newsprint, or any typeface print.  Tear different sized random squares and rectangles to suit and lay on canvas for placement.  Any size works!  You can't tear incorrectly!  You may want to include a picture of a Santa, like I have included above.

2.  Take all of the paper off of the canvas, and with a foam or regular paint brush, apply a thin coat of Matte Medium (this acts as an adhesive) and then while it's still wet, you will lay your pieces down.  If you have more than one layer of pieces of paper, apply another coat of Matte Medium to seal the first layer of papers.  Continue layering until you have the look that you want.  After each layer, apply a coat of Matte Medium, including the final layer.  Let dry.  Once it's completely dry, using a sponge, sponge Walnut Stain Distress Ink around the edges to antique your canvas.

3.  Using Vanilla Shimmer Spray, spray the entire canvas to create a sparkly sheen.  Let dry.

4.  To create the red spritz, spray in a horizontal sliding motion across the canvas with Post Box Red Dylusions Spray.  You want it to land on the canvas as a thin spray, you don't want large splotches.

5.  The snowflakes falling are dots of Ice Stickles Glitter Glue.  You want to randomly dot your canvas to suit your perogative either all over like a blizzard, or just a few to mimick gently falling snow.  You decide!

6.  Now to create the top, this is pretty important, as the top is usually where people look first because   embellishments are key to any project!  They make your projects pop, look more life-like and 3-D, and add a certain pizzazz that you wouldn't ordinarily achieve with paper and stickers.

For this particular top, I used mistletoe leaves as a background for my found door lock and sparkly crystal embellishments.  In the store, we have set aside paper for the leaves, different types of locks that you can choose from that would work best with the size canvas that you have chosen, and some crystal embellishments to tie it all together!

        a.  To create a white lock (because they are all silver or gold metal), apply a thin coat of white gesso and let dry.  Using the brush inside, paint a nice, thick coat of Picket Fence Crackle Paint and set aside to dry.  This may have to wait to be adhered to your canvas for 24 to 48 hours, depending on the thickness of the coating.  Once it's completely dry and crackled, sponge Walnut Stain Distress ink to antique it and adhere to canvas.

7.  For the bottom, Frantage White Embossing Powder works wonderfully for creating a snow covering that is very pretty and life-like!

That's it!  Over all, it shouldn't take you more than a few hours, allowing drying time, to create a one of a kind canvas for your Christmas decorations or handmade treasures to give as gifts!
